You can make a real difference to the future of young people |
| The Need
Obesity, drinking/binge drinking and smoking amongst children and young people are significant health issues and clearly indicate that they are not placing health as a priority in their lives. Many reasons are given for this, including socio-economic factors, peer influence and media influences.
The importance of ensuring that children appreciate the value of good health is clear. Informal learning needs to begin before children start school. This is borne out by research from NIDA, The Joseph Rowntree Foundation, DCSF and the Home Office. It is then that we lay the foundations of knowledge and understanding that children use to make choices about their health. This cannot therefore be the responsibility of teachers and health workers alone.
Life Education works directly with children, schools and parents acting as a catalyst for concerted action. Our aim is to develop connections between home and school, between families, children and their teachers to send positive messages, which encourage children to take responsibility for their health and well-being.
