Parents are the primary influence in a child’s life and involving them in our work ensures that the Life Education messages can have an even greater impact. During the last twelve months our Leicestershire Trust has been busy piloting our new programmes for parents and children. Becky Taylor is part of a team of four Educators working within the Leicestershire Trust and between them they visit over 25,000 local children every year. Becky recently ran a seven-week Parenting Course at King Richard III School in the City of Leicester. The course provided parents with opportunities to develop skills and understanding in relation to family health and well-being, encouraging positive behaviour, drug awareness and in the final week focused on stress management. Parents said that having the opportunity to meet and share concerns proved invaluable. Becky said: "The programme helps parents develop a much more positive and rewarding relationship with their children. It was such a success that the school now regularly runs parents’ groups each week so they can continue to get together and support each other". "We are also piloting School Assembly Programmes, which encourage parents to come into the school and see first hand what their children have been learning with help from Life Education. Ideas for the healthy assembly theme are discussed with the teacher and we then provide the support and resources needed to make it a success".
